About us
In 2007, after a fifteen year hiatus, a baseball competition returned to Hobart under the banner of Baseball Tasmania. The competition continued under this name until the 2013/4 season when the competition was renamed the Hobart Summer Baseball League, with Baseball Tasmania the governing body.
The season runs from mid October through to mid March with a break over the Christmas/New Year period. Games are of two hours duration with the majority played on either Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, commencing at 6pm. Three games are played on Sundays during the regular season and for the finals.
Games are played at Prince of Wales Bay Recreation Ground in Derwent Park.
In the 2013/14 season, the competition expanded from four teams to five with the welcome addition of the Dragons’ Softball team and saw teams change their names to represent regions of greater Hobart.
In the 2018/19 season, the competition expanded to eight teams in two divisions.
Also in 2018/19 a competition involving two teams was started in Launceston called the Launceston Baseball League. This leagues is hoping to increase the number of teams in 2019/20.
A ground swell of support is building to commence a competition in the North West of the state, based in Burnie, for the 2019/20 season.
No previous experience is required to both play and enjoy the game with the ages of our current members ranging from 16 to 60+ years old.
All three leagues are constantly looking for new players and would welcome any winter sports’ teams interested in entering a team in one of the competitions
